The Brexit-backing boss of pub chain Wetherspoon has bigged up Boris Johnson, describing the Tory big beast as a “good guy” who has ” broad appeal”.
Speaking to Sky News outside of a Spoons (of course) Martin said: “Boris Johnson’s a good guy, he’s run a magazine for eight years which is a difficult thing to do, he was very successful.
“He’s been Mayor of London which wasn’t his party’s city so he’s got broad appeal.”
Martin did say that he’d advise BoJo to “curb his extracurricular activities” but that he thought he has the talent for the top job.
“Boris I like you a lot, you’ve got a lot of talent, but drink English old boy it’ll do you the world of good.”
"Drink English, it'll do you a world of good."
The chairman of JD Wetherspoon says he would back Boris Johnson in a Tory leadership contest.
