Ireland’s Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has told reporters “I am the European Union”, following the revelation that the Irish government have knocked back bilateral border talks with the British government.
Varadkar has declared: “I am the European Union when it comes to these matters. The Irish government and the European Union are all one when it comes to Brexit.
“I’m sure if people haven’t realised that over the past two years, they’re coming to realise it.
“The decision that we’ve made as a European Union is that the Withdrawal Agreement and the backstop are not up for negotiation.”

Ireland’s anti-EU IREXIT party responded by saying that Veradkar was “leaving us in no doubt that he is working primarily for the interests of Brussels. Not Ireland”.
The chances of a No Deal Brexit continue to rise.
