Anti-terror police in Germany have raided the flat of a Tunisian man charged with making the toxic chemical ricin.
29-year-old Sief Allah H was charged yesterday with producing a biological weapon and for “preparing a serious act of violence against the state.”
He is said to have come to Germany in 2016 and reportedly has sympathies for Islamic State.
German security services say there was enough ricin to produce 1,000 toxic doses.
They are searching other flats in the building, believing the man may have stored more ricin in other apartments in the building and around the area.
According to DW, ricin is 6,000 times more powerful than cyanide and exposure to the toxin causes organ failure and death within 48 hours.
Hans-Georg Maassen, the head of Germany’s domestic intelligence agency, said: “It’s very likely a terrorist attack was possibly thwarted”.
Absolutely horrific insight into the continuing dangers that the security services are having to deal with in Europe.
