Rudd appointed new Work and Pensions Secretary

Amber Rudd has been appointed the new Work and Pensions Secretary as Theresa May attempts to restore her Cabinet following the Brexit fall-out.

Rudd, who infamously resigned as Home Secretary in April 2018 after admitting to “inadvertently” misleading MPs over targets for removing illegal immigrants has remained loyal to the prime minister from the backbenches.

Her appointment sees yet another Remainer on the Cabinet books as the divide in the Conservative party reaches breaking point.
