Almost 30,000 Afghans have arrived in Turkey over the last three months, according to the country’s Interior Minister.
Suleyman Soylu revealed that 29,899 migrants had arrived in Turkey since January, which if trends continue, would exceed the 45,259 who arrived in the whole of 2017.
“In recent months, we are facing a new refugee wave, especially from Afghanistan,” he told the Anadolu news agency.
Soylu also revealed that the country had caught 1,328 people smugglers so far.
This could have a huge knock on effect for Europe if these people decide to make the crossing to Greece.
Last week, Westmonster reported that one of Greece’s top courts had decided that asylum seekers shouldn’t be held in reception centres on the Greek islands, which sparked fears in Brussels that Europe could face a fresh wave of migrants.

Crossings between the two countries is already up 27% this year, this issue simply isn’t going to go away.
Given Erdogan’s previous threats to ‘flood Europe with migrants’ unless the EU gave him more cash, plans should be drawn up in case he goes through with his threat.
