Poland’s Foreign Minister, Witold Waszczykowski, has hit out at irresponsible decisions by politicians in opening Europe’s borders, calling out Angela Merkel personally.
Speaking to Italian journalists in Rome, Waszczykowski said: “Irresponsible politicians are those who opened the borders and accepted a wave of migration, the way Angela Merkel did.
“It was an irresponsible move because today we are dealing with hundreds of thousands of migrants who have not been identified, many missing minors and many…who could not be absorbed even by the affluent German economy and who will be living on the dole for years,” he added.
Waszczykowski claimed that unlike Germany, Poland was handling the migration crisis “in a responsible way” by “keeping tabs on those coming in from the East, identifying everyone who arrives”.
Poland will be feeling emboldened after the election of like-minded leaders in Austria and the Czech Republic, who also reject the EU’s refugee narrative. It’s going to be interesting to see how this develops as Merkel struggles to form her coalition…
