MPs back Brady anti-backstop amendment

Those in Westminster have backed an amendment from Conservative MP Sir Graham Brady to demand that the hated backstop is “to be replaced with alternative arrangements to avoid a hard border”.

MPs voted for it by 317 to 301.

It also makes clear that Parliament “supports leaving the European Union with a deal and would therefore support the Withdrawal Agreement subject to this change”.

Theresa May wanted MPs to vote for this. A good night for Downing Street. The British government must now get tough with Brussels.
