Man who 'violently bit police officer' told to pay just £285 & given community order

A man has been told to pay a fine of just £285 for violently biting, leaving a scar, on a police officer.

The man assaulted the officer during an incident on Murchison Road in Leytonstone.

He was also given a community order for his crime.

Chairman of the Metropolitan Police Federation, Ken Marsh said: “This is another despicable assault on one of our hard-working colleagues.

“We need the courts to send a strong message to those who might do this that their actions will not be tolerated. This does not do that.

The man pleaded guilty to the assault and was told to pay a fine of £200 in compensation and court fees of £85.

Soft justice yet again.
