Majority of Germans don't want Defence Minister as EU President

The German Defence Minister put forward to replace Jean-Claude Juncker as EU Commission President is not a good choice – according to German voters.

Ursula von der Leyen has been picked to take over the role, having said in 2011: “My goal is the United States of Europe, based on the model of the federal states of Switzerland, Germany or the US.”

A new ARD poll in Germany reveals that just 33% of Germans think she’s a good choice for the top EU role.

Whilst a whopping 56% do not think she is a good choice.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement from the voters who know her best.
