Khan: Close Wikipedia 'gender page gap'

While London suffers a growing violent crime epidemic, it’s Mayor, Sadiq Khan has his eye on the real issue; the ‘gender page gap’ on Wikipedia.

Khan has called for an “edit-a-thon” to redress the lack of pages devoted to females on the website, claiming that just 17% of Wiki biographies are devoted to women.

“That’s why, during this year’s London Tech Week, which starts today, I have set up an ‘Edit-a-thon’ at Bloomberg’s office in the capital to try and help redress the balance,” he writes.

“Schoolgirls from across the city will be joining forces with Wikipedia’s experts and women in the tech industry to create a surge in new pages about women, and to add more detail to existing ones.

“Working with the Wikipedia Foundation and Bloomberg, today is the first in a series of Edit-a-thons taking place across London to help improve its gender equality ratio.”

We’re sure those recovering from horrific knife injuries will be pleased the Mayor is finally doing something about the lack of women on Wikipedia!
