Italy's Salvini refuses to back down from EU

Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has refused to back down as the European Union threaten his country with sanctions after rejecting their budget.

The popular Eurosceptic Leader asked yesterday: “Has the letter from Brussels arrived? I’m waiting for one from Father Christmas too.

“We will politely talk as we have always done. We will have dialogue. I’m going to keep going. If someone thinks they can convince me that the Fornero (pension reform) is right, they can try. I’m not convinced”.

Later he insisted that he was happy to “confront Juncker, (EU Commissioner) Moscovici or whoever.”

And on Twitter he said that: “I ask respect for the Italian people.”

At least one national Leader isn’t being rolled over by the European Union.
