The UK might reconsider its decision to leave the European Union following the poisoning of a Russian spy and his daughter, the President of the German Bundestag, Wolfgang Schäuble, has said.
The senior politician said in the wake of the Salisbury poisoning, and the unprecedented show of actual unity from the Brussels bloc, Brits saw “how good it is to not be alone in the world” and he hoped the country would now realise that “Europe works”.
He added: “I still have hope that the British stay in the EU.”
His comments refer to 19 EU countries who announced this week they would be joining the UK in expelling Russian diplomats in response to the poisoning of Sergei Skripal.
Schäuble also claimed the British are now considering about whether it is “really smart” to leave the bloc after the incident.
“After all, they have now agreed on a transitional period with the other Member States and want to leave things as they are until 2020,” he added.

It’s very telling that a senior politician would weaponise an attack on British soil to try and blackmail its citizens into remaining in the EU. The British public have committed to Brexit, there’s no going back now.
