Theresa May was confronted with a spot-on question from a man in the crowd at today’s Confederation of British Industry conference who urged her not to lock the UK into the EU’s regulatory framework with her deal.
He dismissed the CBI as the “Confederation of European Industry” and said that the PM’s deal would “lock us into EU regulations on permanent basis unless EU agrees otherwise”.

May was told of “opportunities will be lost if you sign that agreement” because the EU “don’t want us to be more competitive”.
The alternative was the opportunity for true independence and a “rapidly growing market outside EU” as he urged her to “think again”.
