Brexiteer MP resigns from government

Conservative MP Gareth Johnson has resigned as a Minister in the Whip’s Office.

In a statement on his Facebook page, the MP for Dartford says: “The backstop, contained in the agreement, gives our country no clear, unilateral path out of the European Union.”

I have today resigned as a Minister in the Whips' Office. Below is a copy of my letter to the Prime Minister.

He goes on to say that: “It is now clear to me that no significant change will be made to this agreement before the meaningful vote takes place.

It underlines just how little support May’s deal has. Though a few have backed her deal over the past 24 hours, many others can see that it simply does not deliver.
