The Conservative rules mean that MPs will back leadership candidates until two contenders are left and at that point a run-off takes place with the membership voting for one of two potential Leaders. Though last time Andrea Leadsom dropping out meant Theresa May won by default. Hopefully there will be an actual contest this time.
Right now, Boris beats Raab in a run-off 59-41. But there is a long way to go yet as May clings on to power.
What is clear is that the Conservative membership want a strong Brexiteer PM. Who can blame them given the Brexit Party’s rise from nowhere. The question will be if a new figure will actually deliver or just talk a talk good game like Theresa May.
