There are almost 19,000 individuals on the French terror watchlist, according to newspaper La Liberation.
The number of potential terrorists on the Signal Processing File for the Prevention of Terrorist Radicalization (FSPRT) list has increased by 6,000, rising from 13,000 to 19k in the last year.
4,000 of those are said to be ‘high risk – being actively monitored by France’s Central Territorial Intelligence Service (SCRT).
The news comes just days after a tough new anti-terror law came into force, which gives authorities the power to shut down mosques and tag those they believe are a threat to national security.
France, along with much of Europe and Britain, now faces an unprecedented terror threat.
