Brexiteer MP Owen Paterson has been on the front foot today, insisting that whilst “with goodwill” a deal can still be done, Theresa May “should come back with No Deal” if the EU refuse to budge on issues surrounding Northern Ireland.
Paterson was in typically robust mode, saying: “You do not solve this by giving some quasi-colonial status to Northern Ireland.”
My @SkyNews interview: NI border soluble with technical measures & goodwill but regulation must remain common throughout UK; integrity of UK not negotiable so we should not be frightened of no deal at the end of the week. @theresa_may @DavidDavisMP @campaignforleo @LeaveMnsLeave pic.twitter.com/A9wzt1Rmh6

As he points out, many in Northern Ireland are looking forward to benefiting from the UK’s ability to think, trade and act globally outside of the EU. That must not be sacrificed as some sort of bargaining chip to Brussels.
