The Metropolian Police’s chief Cressida Dick was visiting a youth centre in Putney when a woman made it plain to her: “You are talking about teenagers carrying knives, but on the housing estate it’s six-year-olds that are carrying knives, because they think they won’t be stopped.
“You need to start there, in the primary schools – you need to tell much younger people.”
The way to end the way of violence is clear: increase stop and search, tougher sentences and a message that any carrying of knives will result in action, not more hand-wringing by politicians.
It would also be nice if London Mayor Sadiq Khan could be bothered to pull his finger out and get involved…
