Martin Selmayr made his remarks ahead of MPs in Parliament debating the EU Withdrawal Bill this week, just as Labour Remoaners step up their efforts to frustrate Brexit.
He said: “Brexit is bad, and it’s a stupid decision. The only people who can reverse it would be the British people and I am not a dreamer, I am a realist. Brexit will happen on March 29, 2019.”
Nigel Farage has accused Selmayr of trying to interfere in British internal politics – something the EU has a long track record of doing.
He said: “His comments amount to a pig-headed denial in Brussels that Brexit is happening and a desire to be uncooperative at every step of the way.”
This is a shameless attempt to meddle in British internal politics by Juncker’s top man. Not only should the EU keep their nose out, for the sake of Britain’s future MPs should rally behind the Withdrawal Bill and get the UK out from under Brussels’ thumb. It is what the British people voted for, after alll.
