Gordon Brown isn't a sunbeam...

sunbeam.jpgGordon Brown is still at risk of bankruptcy, according to recent reports, due to the £7.45m in unpaid debts that the Labour Party still has to contend with. Today marks the day that the debts are to either be reviewed or repaid, with added pressure coming in the form of comments from former donor Sir Gerry Robinson, who has labelled the Prime Minister as an "incapable leader", who doesn't deserve any donations at all.

Baroness Prosser, who was the Labour Party's treasurer between 1996 and 2001, has urged Mr. Brown to 'get stuck in' and tackle his party's financial problems: "I think we need the Prime Minister himself to take this on his shoulders and say: 'This is a worse situation than we have been in ever and therefore as Prime Minister and leader of the party I need to get stuck in here,'" she said. "He is not exactly a sunbeam, but that is his style. He is very solid, very reliable, very committed to a good Labour agenda."

Due to the lack of donations coming to it from the business sector, Labour has found itself at the mercy of trade unions in order to stay a float. As compensation, many union workers are reportedly seeking free school meals for primary school children and extra time off work for parents. Lady Prooser has admitted that, though it is unhealthy for a party to be reliant on trade unions, the situation will not allow the unions to buy any influence with the party as a whole.

So, assuming that the Labour Party do not allow the unions to have excessive influence, are we going to wake up one morning very soon to the news that they are now bankrupt? Where else are they going to get their money? They have no alternative!

All the Party Committee, who are liable for the debts, will find themselves locked up for 42 days whilst the police look into it.
But the do not need to worry. If they have done nothing wrong they have nothing to fear.
