David and David make up...
In a shock decision to rock the nation, Cameron has decided that he simply can't allow Davis to fight it out there all by himself and has visited Haltemprice and Howden to give support to his fairweather friend in the upcoming by-election. It certainly sounds very touching, but sources assure us that the visit will be the only one that the Conservative leader makes to lend a helping hand, and under no circumstances suggests that Davis The Deserter has been forgiven for toying with Cameron's emotions so callously.
Though the two men deny that tensions exist between them, that they are 'over each other', it seems more than obvious to many players on the political scene that a enmity-shaped miasma floats above these two figure with the same palpable air of discomfort that hovers around the Westminster toilets after Boris Johnson has taken his seat. But is Cameron's pledge of support genuine? Or is he just doing it to keep up appearances?
We'll let you decided that by yourselves. Personally speaking, though, we don't quite see Cameron as the kind of chap to be so forgiving when it comes to a good smiting. His visit today seems to have all the cursory pretence of the uncomfortable kind of conversation that you might have if you were stuck in an elevator you didn't quite like.
The two men visited a school in Hull to discuss the issues of liberty that are at stake regarding the 42 detention scam in preparation for the July 10th election.
