Cherie Blair to open literary festival...
Joining the list of around one hundred other authors that are to take part in October's two week festival, Mrs Blair will hopefully provide the literary scene with the excitement and intensity that it has been lacking since the death of Charles Dickens back in 1870.
To be perfectly honest, we haven't read Mrs Blair's opus (apart from the sloppy parts about being taken by Tony up the Balmoral), so it would be unfair to criticise her presence at the event. What is disturbing though is that the news cements credence in the disgusting thought of politicians wanting to crawl out of the political sphere and into the public eye for reasons that they consider to be more glamorous.
Last week, we mentioned that John Prescott was heading for stardom with a BBC documentary, that Lib Dem with the lop-sided face and a Cheeky Girl on his arm keeps making appearances on junk trash TV shows, and now Cherie has involved herself with the literary scene. It's all well and good for political players to write books if they wish, but do they really have to act like superstars just because they've made a few decisions in their lifetime and have managed to join the pantheon of d-grade celebrities that have a biography or two on the shelves at Tesco?
Why can't they just stick to the politics?
