Cameron gets with the Shine Week spirit...

cowell.jpgDavid Cameron has found himself overcome by the festive spirit of Shine Week by hanging out with Simon Cowell at a children's party in celebration of 60 years of the NHS. The two were spotted having a jolly old time at Evelina Children’s Hospital in London whilst inspiring youngsters to reach their full potential.

Though it might seem that the two are a strange pairing, reports suggest that Cameron met the famous philandering music mogul through his press secretary Andy Coulson. The two came up with the idea for the party - at which some of Cowell's Britain's Got Talent acts played for free - over dinner last month. Naturally, this has led some to suggest that the Conservative Leader only wished to befriend Cowell in order to add a 'populist' approach to his public image...

It's interesting that Cameron has chosen this week of weeks to flaunt his dedication to both young people and talent. We noted earlier that this week has been named Shine Week by Balls and Brown, so it should only be expected that the opposition would do something to suggest that they share equally passionate sentiments.

Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg wasn't so impressed with the news, stating that he didn't want to go the party anyway, and he doesn't even like ice cream. So there.

He also added: “This bizarre attempt to latch on to the popularity of light entertainment only serves to highlight the fact that beneath his showbiz veneer, David Cameron has nothing of substance to say about the NHS. With the NHS in desperate need of reform, and the Government merely tinkering, you would expect the Tory leader to have something serious to say. But when faced with serious issues, David Cameron has once again resorted to gimmicks.

Whatever his enemies think, the friendship of a winner-picker like Cowell will no doubt up Cameron's credibility as a leader with the masses. Gordon Brown may have made an actual appearance on American Idol (or whatever the fuck), but it seems that Cameron has managed to grease his way all the way behind the scenes.

The case continues...
