Bush to emit less gas...

Thumbnail image for george bush 081107.jpgEverybody's favourite simian of conversation, George W. Bush, managed to crack a few wry smiles from audiences in Japan last night by making a joke about his country's super-sized contributions to world pollution levels. As a final sayonara to Japanese leaders the saucy Texan quipped, "Goodbye from the world’s greatest polluter", before punching his fist to the air and manically yelling "Yee-hah".

Despite criticism from snot-nosed environmentalists, Mr. Bush had previously opposed agreements to cut America's greenhouse gas emissions. Yesterday, however, he joined the legions of fashion followers that have adopted an environmentally friendly attitude by announcing that he would be more than happy for the U.S. to halve carbon emissions by 2050.

Perhaps cynics would suggest that Bush's sudden decision to take an environmentally friendly stance is to be attributed to the fact that he leaves office soon. It makes sense that he'd want to do something to ameliorate the negative ways in which the majority of the public sees him. Maybe this is it.

One thing that's clear is that, when he does leave office, life is going to be a lot less interesting for the rest of us. Barack and McCain are both too square and sensitive in comparison to Bush to allow their presidencies to be defined by personality flaws. We should enjoy Georgie Boy whilst we still can...

Yee-haH!!
