Zeitgeist, The Movie...
All this talk of religion, weapons, and September 11th has reminded us of a documentary that we once watched called Zeitgeist. Released in June 2007, the movie examines some of the most controversial issues that face modern society, particularly those of social control via the media and through religious institutions. If you haven't seen it already, it's definitely worth watching, though we'd recommend a rather large pinch of salt, as some of the ideas contained within it are a bit radical/dubious.
Split into three sections the movie covers the following ground, and will definitely make you think more than whatever the BBC was planning to spoon feed you tonight:
Part I: The Greatest Story Ever Told
The first section of the movie deals with the historicity of the bible and makes use of comparative mythological techniques to examine the creation of the Jesus myth.
Part II: All the World's a Stage
This section deals with the September 11 attacks on NYC and suggests that this was an internal affair devised to create mass hysteria that would justify war with Iraq.
Part III: Don't Mind the Men Behind the Curtain
Finally, the movie covers the issues of the Federal Reserve and Bank of England, which it is claimed are the two institutions that have being secretly controlling society for decades.
This year, the movie won the top award of Best Feature Documentary/Artivist Spirit at the 4th Annual Artivists Awards in 2008 in Hollywood.
