'Terrified' Brown probably not bothered...

gbrown.jpgCheeky David Davis has stated that the Prime Minister (Gordon Brown) is 'terrified' of voters for refusing to put a candidate to run in the upcoming by-election. Speaking at the official launch of his campaign this morning, the detention hating ex-shadow Chancellor accused Mr. Brown of having 'lost his nerve'.

Davis will be running against twenty five other candidates in all, the majority of whom are independents. As mentioned yesterday, his opposing aspirants amount to nothing more than a sordid assemblage of opportunists, ass holes, and wannabes, all of whom have no real chance of winning against somebody of Davis' status, and all of whom help to paint a picture of the event being the 'farce' that Gordon Brown and his chums have labelled it as being.

Perhaps the real question to be asked then is this: Is Gordon Brown truly terrified of the voters? Or is he making a smart move and not wasting the time, effort and money that it would require to put a candidate in the running?

After the appalling results of yesterday's by-election in Henley, in which Labour finished fifth behind even the BNP, it could be argued that Brown is making a shrewd choice by not placing a candidate against Davis. There's not much chance of him winning, and it would cost money that the impecunious Labour party may not be willing to fritter away.

The whole purpose of the by-election may be to act as a 'fuck-you' to Gordon Brown and his detention policies, but, to be perfectly fair, it seems like he's taking it as just another knock on the chin. Davis' constant attacks on a man who refuses to fight against him demonstrate that his decision to quit didn't get the reaction that he was expecting it to...
