Santa's Workshop...
Inspired by a BBC report today that claims 4,000 Chinese babies have been blessed with the name of Aoyun, which means 'Olympic Games', Westmonster would like to present the documentary 'Santa's Workshop'. Detailing some of the working conditions inside Chinese factories, the piece, which lasts for just over half an hour, helps to demonstrate why for many Chinese the chances of an improved economy thanks to the Olympics make it more than just an overblown sporting event, and, instead, a source of hope for an improved standard of living.
The BBC story may present an amusing opportunity to laugh at the bizarre choices of those in other countries, but after witnessing some of their living conditions, you may realise that the act of naming their children after the event is a sad and rather tender way of putting what's left of their hope into an uncertain future.
We'll try to to bring more documentaries to you in the future that deal with issues relevant to the day's news content. Luckily, the Internet is a great source of independently produced material that does not hold the same degree of bias or ignorance as some of the more mainstream media outlets.
