More elected mayors in the post (maybe)...

kenboris.jpgDoes your life seem emptier and without sparkle now that the London Mayoral Election is officially dead and buried? Do you you miss the palpable tension that washed over us all like some kind of stupefying tsunami? Or the fact that you can no longer tune in to riveting idiosyncrasies such as Ken Livingstone pointing his fingers at people, Boris stumbling over his words in response, or that other guy (what was his name again?) talking about how much he used to like being a policeman and how special it made him?

Westmonster must certainly admit that we found the event to be THRILLING and that we haven't quite know what to do with ourselves since it came to its sordid demise. Thanks the heavens above, then, that reports made today claim that the idea of having more elected mayors in UK towns and cities is starting to vie for the attention of players on the political scene. If things work out as planned, we could all soon be voting in local mayoral elections and reliving the excitement of days gone by...

According to a post on the IPPR site, political parties are becoming ever more enthusiastic about the prospect of having more elected mayors in UK towns and cities, so much so that white papers to be published by the government are expected to suggest whether or not this is to become a regular occurrence. The case has been put forward that elected Mayors work harder than those fortuitous pricks that simply fell into the position. The process also gives power to the people and all that good stuff.

We're not sure exactly when the white papers will be released, but it definitely seems like a step in the right direction for local politics. Plus, maybe we can tease a Bojo #2 out of grey obscurity. And imagine the possibilities if we had two of them running around like headless chickens...

*Shudder*
