Bush: one final tour of Europe
With all the fuss over the recently-resolved Obama/Clinton face-off, it's been pretty easy to forget the man who is all set to step down from his exalted White House position. Well, y'know, save for a few reminders like an inceasingly unstable global economy, spiralling oil prices and the vastly multiplied threat of international terrorism.
Yes, the Bush era will soon be drawing to a close. And - like a uncomfortable office party that everyone is forced to go to when an unpopular employee jumps ship - Georgie-boy is embarking on one last trip around Europe to say goodbye to some 'pals'.
From June 9th to 16th, Bush will be ferrying around from Slovenia to Germany to Italy to France to Britain - kind of like a travel-based American teen comedy called something like Euro Party Road Blast, except with less beer-chugging and more widely-despised none-too-bright born-again Christians who are still denying the existence of climate change.
According to Washington foreign policy analyst Joseph Cirincione:
"Bush will travel in a little bubble from palace to palace. He'll have welcoming ceremonies, photo ops, even some praise -- and then he'll be quickly forgotten."
And there we were thinking he'd be driving through Brixton in an open-top car.
Still. Probably safer than Dallas, eh?
