Bojo offers free transport to veterans...

bojograffiti.jpgBoris Johnson has joined the new wave of army loving politicians that wish to show their respect to war veterans. According to his website, any injured veterans in the capital, regardless of whether they live there or not, will be given free access to the city's transportation services, a motion that is expected to save the majority of the poor bastards a total of £200. The scheme will be open to all veterans under sixty and their widows, who are too young to receive the regular pensioners' 'Freedom Pass'.

The Mayor made the announcement as he launched the annual Veterans Day in Trafalgar Square, an event "to celebrate the contribution that servicemen and women make to society and to pay tribute to their outstanding courage and bravery". London isn't the only place to be holding such an event, in fact it seems that quite a few English towns have followed suit and are to be holding similar tributes at some stage throughout the summer.

The new scheme will take effect from 2 November of this year and will allow them to travel pretty much anywhere within the London district for free. There are estimated to be 2,600 people in London that will be able to benefit from the scheme, many of whom suffer from post traumatic-stress, or other mental health problems. Perhaps this is why Bojo can relate to them.

The move is certainly a good one for the people that have felt the worst effects of the nation's war efforts overseas. Hopefully it marks the beginning of better treatment for soldiers whom are otherwise forgotten after giving their lives in return for a few lost limbs and a shitty pay cheque or two.

The glorification of war is a well known ploy often used by those who would gain support for revolution.
