Bill Clinton: 'my wife is doomed'

If at first you don't succeed, a wise man once said, try, try and try again. And then give up. No point being a whining ninny about it.

It looks like the Hillary Clinton camp may finally be heeding this advice (that's the 'giving up' part, by the way, not the 'keep banging your head against an Obama-shaped brick wall' bit). After a tireless campaign to secure leadership of the Democractic Party, Hillary's attempts to sway the votes of those all-important superdelegates unfortunately hasn't come to fruition.

And who was the harbinger of doom? Who's the one who seems to have quite vocally thrown in the towel? None other than Mr. C himself, who addressed a rally of supporters in South Dakota by saying:

"I want to say also that this may be the last day I'm ever involved in a campaign of this kind. I thought I was out of politics, till Hillary decided to run. But it has been one of the greatest honours of my life to go around and campaign for her for president."

Hillary is now rumoured to be chit-chatting away with her advisors, hoping to come up with the most painless possible method of calling it a day. How Westmonster wishes that some of our politicians would be able to take obvious defeat with such calculated grace - instead of, y'know, grinning like a serial killer on American Idol before clinging embarrassingly onto power and rambling something about 'listening to the public' despite having produced your Party's worst poll results for three decades.

That'd be nice, wouldn't it?
