Obama draws 80,000 strong crowd...

alg_senobama.jpgAfter charming a crowd totalling 80,000 yesterday, Barack Obama has officially had what the NY Times has described as his 'wow moment'. According to news reports, the scene which unfolded on an appropriately sunny day in Portland, Oregon took part on the banks of the Willamette River. Obama was dwarfed against the sea of supporters surrounding him, many of whom were watching him from boats upon the river.

The incident goes to demonstrate the disparate differences between political scenes in the UK and the US. It's quite hard to imagine that anybody would turn up to show their support for Cameron, Brown, or Bojo in such numbers. But does it mean that the Americans are less apolitical than people in the UK? Or do they just get more caught up in the glamour of events and the idea that something important might be happening?

Obama described the throng before him as being 'spectacular', something that Westmonster has to agree with, what with the 80,000 strong crowd sharing numbers with most UK music festivals. So Is Obama America's new president of rock and roll? The MTV savvy leader that the world has been dreaming of?

For the time being, it certainly looks like it...
