Hillbilly Mp fined for quad incident

A Conservative MP from Mid Sussex, Nicholas Soames, has had his driving licence revoked for two months after being found guilty of riding an uninsured quad on public roads.

To make things even more interesting, it turns out that some of the passengers that he was pulling behind him in a trailer included a couple of dirty kids, a pregnant woman, and some flat cap adorned farmer types - much like a scene from some sort of English pastoral version of the Beverly Hillbillies.

Soames pleaded guilty in Crawley yesterday after the incident was videoed by hunt saboteurs on New Year's day. The 60 year old was fined £200 and was ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge and costs of £35.

Westmonster must say that the incident is a strange one: Riding around in quads isn't the kind of behaviour that you would expect from a politician, especially one who is almost eligible to sign-up for his bus pass. Perhaps it's a sign of the Conservative Party's new and adventurous nature? It's certainly not very 'conservative'...

According to the Telegraph, two people each year die of quad bike related incidents in the UK, making the vehicles even more dangerous than tin openers and onion rings. Accidents are also common, with famous victims including Rik Mayall and Ozzy Osbourne.

Don't say we didn't warn you....
