Ministry for Change
David Cameron is pleased with himself...
Stating that yesterday's win for the party was much more than just a projection of public enmity towards to the current government's methods, Mr Cameron claimed that he was genuinely capable of instigating and providing the change that Britain needs and would dedicate himself to proving so over the next few months. He also stated that a Boris Johnson winning of the Mayoral Election would be 'enormously important'.
It certainly does look like we are finally entering the Post-Blair stage of British politics and perhaps it's about time. Although we've had Gordon Brown in between Blair and whatever is to follow, his office hasn't really defined the nation in any discernible way. In fact, it sometimes feels a little like he would like somebody to define it for him. Figuratively speaking Brown seems to have been nothing more than the shaky rope bridge between two more definite ideals.
If Boris Johnson does win the Mayoral Election then it surely demonstrates how British sentiments have begun to lean back in the direction of their more traditionally Conservative values. Perhaps it's a reaction to the nation's involvement in Iraq that was brought about under a Labour government, or maybe it's that lack of any perceptible direction. Or it could be that we're just being cynical...
Whatever happens though, it might be a 'big moment' for the David Cameron, but it's an even bigger one for the rest of us.
