Bush apologises for Koran target practice...

bush.jpgWe've said it before and we'll say it again: it can't be easy being George Walker Bush. This time the life of the American President takes an onerous turn after it was revealed that a U.S. soldier in Iraq was found to be using the Koran as a tool for target practice.

Bush was forced to apologise personally to Nouri Maliki, the Prime Minister of Iraq, after the Holy Islamic text was found to be riddled with 14 U.S. bullets. All reports state that the soldier responsible for the shooting was a staff sergeant sniper, though his name and other personal details have been withheld.

Whoever he is, he's probably not the most popular cheerleader on the squad at the moment...

Obviously, there isn't any amusing or sarcastic light that Westmonster can shine upon the situation. It's not a particularly funny story after all. The incident does go to show though the extremes to which military personnel can be brainwashed into demonising their enemies. When looked at from a distance, the whole thing really is pretty pathetic.

Bush apologised to Maliki during one of their regular video conferences and has promised to present the grunt in question to the courts.

A U.S. Military spokesperson said that the incident was an "isolated incident and a result of one soldier's actions", that was also "both serious and deeply troubling".

Word.
