Ministry for Bleak Outlooks

Brown admits expensive oil is here to stay...

oil.jpgGordon Brown's announcement that high oil prices are here to stay must have made at least one or two of the nation's lorry drivers wish that they hadn't wasted so much fuel driving to London yesterday. After speaking with oil chiefs this morning the Prime Minister said that though he wanted to help "hardest hit" families, the problem of global demand outstripping supply was "long-term". And that, simply put, if it isn't there, it isn't there. Even we can't blame Brown for that.

The PM's announcements paint quite a bleak delineation of the future, especially for those that believe that global oil production will peak sooner rather than later, leaving us in a world of abandoned machinery, famine and no more central heating. Indeed, some oil theorists suggest that oil has already peaked and we just haven't been told about it. Dear, oh dear.

Whilst it sounds like the plot of a bad movie or an ill-thought out conspiracy theory, it appears that the realities of oil production coming to an end are a very real one. The peak will, by most estimates, take place sometime around 2030, though that's only if global production continues to operate on the same levels and amounts as it currently does - with population increases and the developing economies of China and India leading to more usage, it could happen much sooner.

Brown's admission today that he, along with any other politician, is essentially powerless regarding the oil crisis displays the severity of the situation, which will only get worse in the years ahead. Today's visit by to oil chiefs was the political equivalent of a kid who's kicked his ball over the neighbour's fence meekly knocking on the door to get it back but having nobody answer.

Mr Brown said. "This is not just a national problem. It is a global problem of supply and demand, not just in the short term but the medium term and the long term."

Which basically means that we're screwed.

I honestly don't believe the prices will be going down soon. Sucks. A quick example: oilheat users. They’re running out of money to keep their heating supply. Working for NORA I have seen the toughest people break down and just give up. We can’t let that happen. Someone should tell them about bioheat. They will still use oil, but a much better, biodegradable kind. It can help conserve 400 MILLION gallons of oil. Conservation is the key to lower prices in my honest opinion. Here’s the site i got info from: oilheatamerica . com/index.mv?screen=bioheat
