Ministry for Flag Flying
St. George's Cross to wow Downing Street..
As part of the PM's new move on flag-flying practices, the St. George's flag is to be hung out every St. George's Day, the Scottish saltaire on St. Andrew's Day, and the Welsh Dragon on St. David's Day. The Northern Irish do not have a flag to hang out on St. Patrick's day, but it expected that Mr Brown will hang his guiness-vomit-stained shirt out to dry instead.
Today's flying of the flag will be the first time that the flag has seen the light of day at Downing Street since the 2006 football world cup. Indeed, it is a sign of the times indeed that flying the national flag on the country's national day has become so rare an occurrence that it becomes newsworthy. Perhaps Tony Blair didn't like the St. George's flag because it didn't have his face on it.
Regardless, reports state that the Union Jack is still to be the flag of preference. Government buildings with more than one flag pole are encouraged to fly both that of the Union and that of St. George. The union flag is to take the flagpole closest to Buckingham Palace as a sign of it's superiority.
