Religion Vs. Government: now it gets high-tech

Religion has always been at the forefront of embracing modern technology - from using the Black And Decker Firestorm 3000 Series to burn witches, to installing a special Jesus-monitor on the next shuttle launch just in case the Messiah comes within close proximity and possibly affects any spacewalks that might be happening.

Now Cardinal Keith O'Brien has turned his attention to that other pinnacle of modern technology: You Tube, officially the best, most amazingly advanced way people have ever had of sharing their totally awesome Halo 3 gunshot compiliations. O'Brien has used it for a different purpose, however - to argue against the Human Embryology And Fertilisation Bill.

Having also recorded the message onto DVD and posted one out to every Westminster MP, Roman Catholic leader O'Brien - the president of the Bishops' Conference of Scotland - is clearly hoping that his message will have a greater impact this way. The message being: if any of that pesky scientific progress you're making with stem cell research impedes my beliefs, then I'm not going to be a happy bunny. Or thereabouts.

If this approach does successfully sway ministers opinions, it seems fair to say that we can expect a lot more net-based church antics in the future. Just imagine that sort of thing taken to its logical conclusion - one day we may see legions of religious fanatics using the internet as a promotional and organisational tool to further their twisted cause and attempt to bring down a society they perceive as 'unholy.'

Hang on ...
