Prime Minister looks to Shakira for advice

If you wanted to discuss the issue of education within the Third World, who would you turn to?

An academic who has spent his whole life researching the topic, maybe? Possibly a charity worker who had spent a significant amount of time working in such poverty-stricken corners of the world, all the while growing an innate understanding and empathy for the nation at stake? Or - and this is a bit of a long shot - would you opt to have a quick chinwag with pop star Shakira, Colombian hitmaker behind songs like Hips Don't Lie and ... erm ... all those other ones? PM Gordon Brown had to make this choice. And can you guess the outcome?

Yep - Gord is all set to hold telephone talks with the sultry songstress, despite mumbling something last year along the lines of "I don't believe politics is about celebrity." Hard to tell exactly what changed his mind. Maybe it was that recent get-together with George Clooney.

While Shakira undoubtedly seems like a nice enough person - she has her own educational foundation in Colombia and is a Unicef goodwill ambassador - Westmonster can't help but feel that Gordon may just be better off talking to some a bit more knowledgeable. And, y'know, relevant.

Unless, of course, this is how every political issue is going to be handled from now on. Expect Russell Brand to sort out the dying economy, then, while Big Brother's Chanelle is going to do her best at restructuring the NHS. Oh - and a bumbling, blonde-mopped guest presenter from Have I Got News For You may soon be running the capital city.

Hang on ... that last one could never happen, could it?
