Department for Silly Lists
Straight-talking Jack
Look, this is just too easy. At 12.15 pm, the Grauniad reports that Jack Straw is urging and end to 'dreadful' public service jargon:
"The use of euphemism across government, particularly but not exclusively in the fields of social services, is dreadful, because it acts as a barrier between the public and those who pay our salaries."
You know what's coming. Jack Straw, February 5, 2003, at the UN Security Council:
Its central premise - that Iraq possesses no weapons of mass destruction - is a lie. This outright lie was repeated yesterday on television by Saddam Hussein. The declaration also has obvious omissions, not least in the failure to explain what has happened to the large quantities of chemical and biological weapons material and munitions unaccounted for by United weapons inspectors in 1998.
Well, at least it's not euphemistic.
