Gus to crack down
In the wake of Civil Serf, the Times is saying Sir Gus O'Donnell is planning a Whitehall crackdown on bloggers and social networking:
Sir Gus will shortly issue guidelines to tell officials whether they can start up blogs or use social networking websites such as Facebook and YouTube, and even if they can change details on Wikipedia.
Of course, it's a sign of the complete lack of innovation inside Whitehall brains that this hasn't been a problem before now. There's half-a-million civil servants in Britain. They've produced one worthwhile blog. This explains why government websites are crap, and why government IT projects fail. If they hired some more bloggers, we might all be safer.
