Department for Tax and Spend
It's about tax, David
While Cammers messes about with park rangers and mothering help, the Centre for Policy Studies - founded, lest we forget, by Margaret Thatcher and Keith Joseph - gets to the heart of the matter with its report on British household disposable income, and how it's being squeezed by taxation and the increased cost of housing. The title, Why Do We Feel So Broke?, even sounds like a campaign slogan.
We can't help drawing a comparison with last week's Progress report urging Labour to step up the pace of reform, which was backed by some Labour big (well, biggish) beasts. Will tax reform (aka, cutting) versus public sector reform (aka, spending all that cash better) emerge as the key narrative of the next election?
