The Funding Scrolls

Cammers takes a risk

It's true! David Cameron is actually about to do something risky, as in something imaginative which could blow up in his face. Ben Brogan has the details:

From the next financial year, which starts Apr 1, all Tory frontbenchers will have to publish a quarterly statement of account. I've seen a draft form - details are still being worked out - which would require an MP to list all employees and whether they are related, where they work and their pay band. It also asks for up-to-date figures on cash claimed under various allowances, including office equipment, communications, and housing. It's one side of A4, so fairly simply. The idea is that from July 1 and thereafter we will have regular updates on what Conservatives are claiming.

Whether this is genius or suicide will rather depend on what's in those statements. We hope Dave's done his homework.
