Points, In Order
Doom, gloom, shake the room
Uh-oh, tighten those belts. The Bank of England says it's going to be choppy in 2008 thanks to global mortgage-lending buffoons. Presumably the Tories are now well ensconced in the "any bad news is good news for us" zone, so Happy New Year, Davey!
Cleggers is investing in social mobility, asking why kids from poor families struggle to make progress in Britain. Westmonster recommends putting working class and middle class parents into a queue, and see which of them becomes immediately pushy and objectionable. There's your answer, Cleggers!
Davey's getting it in the neck from doctors worried about his plans to fine hospitals for every patient who gets MRSA. We say we're OK with it as long as politicians get fined for every dodgy funder they've received money from. Whaddya say, Davey? Davey? Oh.
Big schools are being blamed for bad kids. Umm, call us simple-minded, but isn't that because bigger schools tend to be in poorer areas? No?
David Davis is setting himself up as a friend of the trafficked, claiming the government have no plans to ratify European laws on people trafficking which come into force in 10 other states in February. Quite how this lines up with some of the other stuff the Tories have been saying on immigration and European treaties is a mystery to us.
