The new "bastards"

BobSpink.jpgStep forward Bob Spink, Ultra-Rebel. According to some new research by Philip Cowley and Mark Stuart from the University of Nottingham, Bob is the leading rebel among Conservative MPs under David Cameron. Since the 2005 election, Bob has rebelled from the party line on a bolshie 22 occasions, more than twice as many as the next batch of refuseniks, led by stroppy double act Nicholas and Ann Winterton.

The research also reveals a potential headache for Dave - the 2005 intake have been particularly disobedient. 31 MPs of the 51 who came in in 2005 have rebelled, with Peter Bone, Philip Davies and Philip Hollobone at the top of the queue.

And last statistical fact of the day - it seems like Dave's promises of a "new politics" under which the Tories would wave through Labour laws they liked is being kept to. Only 21% of government bills have been contested since the election. No wonder some of the Tories are rebelling - it must be awfully confusing.
