Ministry for Paying Saatchi & Saatchi
Publish anything! Except this!
Isn't "Inquiry into Propriety and Peerages" a much nicer name than "cash-for-honours"? Well done the Indy. Also, isn't Lord Levy a scoundrel? He's been trying to stop the publication of a major piece of evidence in the old "here's my donation and here's your title" scandal (Westmonster tries, and fails, to better the Indy). Why did he bother?
The letter, from Sir Gulam Noon, is supposed to contain a factual account of how the peer was approached by Labour for a loan. It has been alleged that Lord Levy did the approaching.
The Telegraph brings us the score from Team Levy:
Lord Levy's spokesman said: "We fully recognise the right of the committee to publish whatever they feel is right to publish. However, we did state to the committee that there were certain contents of the letter which we did not agree with."
Ooh! Westmonster can hardly wait! Controversial, almost-suppressed letters are the best kind.
