Last-minute flit to Lisbon

brown 211107.jpgWhat on earth is happening with the EU Reform Treaty? We were told that the Gord wouldn't be attending the signing ceremony in Lisbon on Thursday because of a prior engagement with the Commons Liaison Committee, which shows either a: an admirable attachment to the forms of British government or b: the political equivalent of avoiding Christmas with the in-laws by getting invited to the neighbours. Today, he's changed his mind: he is going, but he'll be late and will miss the formal signing ceremony (the one with cameras) and will sign later (without cameras). The Boy Miliband will still be signing at the formal ceremony.

We're not the only ones who think this is bizarre. It's messy and complicated and apparently indecisive. A bit like an earlier episode around a putative general election. You may remember it.
