Fake news out of re-runs

Picture 20.pngHad enough of NewsKnight? Westmonster is ecstatic to report that, just in time for the presidential primary elections to kick off, U.S. television network Comedy Central has announced the return of fake-news funny men Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert to the airwaves, from 7th January. Both stars' programmes had been casualties of the ongoing strike of the Writers' Guild of America, and have been off the air for nearly two months.

Stewart, whose The Daily Show can normally be seen here in the UK, er… daily at 8:30 on More4, has earned a reputation as America's sharpest political satirist, and will be ad-libbing his set pieces and interviews without the help of the striking writers. Colbert, whose The Colbert Report mocks loud-mouthed American political commentators, will also be ad-libbing his programme. (Colbert doesn't air in the UK, but can be viewed in its entirety on the show's website.)

While Westmonster may find U.S. politics inherently amusing, nobody does a better job than Stewart at pointing out quite how ridiculous the campaign is, and the candidates are. Speaking of which, Colbert is running as an actual candidate for President in the actual South Carolina primary, coming at the end of January.

Westmonster can't stress it enough — if you intend to follow the U.S. election, follow it on The Daily Show.
