We Don't Need No Education

school 051107.jpgAccording to reports, one of the Bills to be announced the Queen's Speech will raise the school leaving age to 18, and introduce other methods to drag reluctant teenagers into the world of work. Curiously, the Beeb was reporting on Breakfast that this would involve fining the jobless youngsters. Er ...?

Anyhow, not everyone's happy with the scheme and one of those detractors is Richard on Have Your Say:

i left education at 17 and now export items world wide as a manager im only 23!
i think if i had been forced to stay in education any longer i would have assaulted at least one teacher! not because im violent but id had enough of education and wanted to start expressing my freedom. unfortunately im British so not free

Whilst there are undoubtedly many lessons Richard could teach us all about the psychological and educational impact of post-16 schooling, we'd feel safer if he didn't.
