Trouble in Slough

Those whom the Gord doesn't like very much die young. Either that or get the immigration brief. One of the two.

Poor ol' Hazel Blears has been on the wrong end of a skewering today from Humphrys over the cost of immigration to local councils, related to the fact that in Slough 60 percent of the children in schools don't speak English apparently. This was thoughtfully supplemented by various pieces accusing her of being responsible for a potential increase in council tax bills to deal with the immigrants-we-didn't-know-we-had fiasco.

Meanwhile the Local Government Association has called for an annual £250m fund to assist with the shortfall created by the newcomers. 

Hazel: "The LGA have put forward some challenging questions and we will continue our existing work with local government on the best way to manage them"
